LIBRARY: Merlot 2013 - 1.5L
I produced my first commercial Merlot in the 1976 vintage when it was about as well-known as Charbono is today. After several years of trying to convince folks to give it a try, its popularity grew and eventually snowballed.
Of course, Bordeaux producers have worked with this grape variety for many years and it is the noble variety of the Cabernet family on the right bank of that region. Like its Cabernet cousin, Merlot’s response to well-drained soils is profound expression and firm structure in the wines grown there.
This is a Merlot for Cabernet lovers. Very dark ruby in color, the ripeness follows with aromas of candied fruit, black cherry and dark currant with a hint of mocha and espresso. The rich flavorful middle is framed by perfectly balanced natural acidity combining mouth coating viscosity and a long lively finish.
2013 Robert Foley Vineyards Merlot Napa Valley
A hundred percent Merlot, the 2013 Merlot comes from both Calistoga and Howell Mountain. Aged 18 months in French oak, this is a good, chunky, chocolaty style of Merlot, with some coffee bean notes, underbrush, as well as plenty of black cherry and blackcurrant fruit in a fleshy, succulent style. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
