VERTICAL: Merlot 2005-2010 6pk 750ml
2005 Merlot – 89 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The charming 2005 Merlot exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of mocha, black cherries, smoke, and earth. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied Merlot is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.
2006 Merlot – 91 points, Wine Spectator
Offers ripe cherry and toasty sage aromas, with concentrated and complex flavors of dried plum and herb that finish with dusty, mineral-tinged tannins.
2007 Merlot – 95 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
It is hard to find much better Merlot than Foley’s 2007 Merlot. This is a blockbuster wine as well. Opulent, exuberant, with that certain “wow” factor from layers of melted fudge, espresso roast, plum, fig, and black cherry and currants, there is an impression of sweetness because of the high levels of alcohol/glycerin. This is a whopper to drink over the next 14+ years.
2008 Merlot – 91 points, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar
Good ruby-red. Plum, redcurrant, cocoa powder, licorice and dark chocolate on the nose, with complementary oak tones; I would have guessed this had a significant percentage of cabernet sauvignon. Then concentrated, chewy and deep, with ripe acidity framing the sweet plum and cassis flavors. Large-scaled and chocolatey-rich merlot, finishing with sweet tannins and noteworthy length. Perhaps a bit more energetic than the 2007 version.
2009 Merlot – 90 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Good bright ruby. Exotic, slightly high-toned aromas of black cherry, blackberry, damp earth, chocolate and licorice. A fat, lush fruit bomb in the mouth, with creamy mocha and chocolate elements adding appeal. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that will not get in the way of drinking this wine early. In fact, I predict that this wine will show more alcohol with time in bottle, so I'd advise consuming it within the next year or two.
2010 Merlot – 92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Merlot reveals lots of cocoa, chocolate, Asian plum sauce and black cherry liqueur notes in its dense, ripe, full-bodied, silky, hedonistic personality. It is hard to argue with this voluptuous, seductive California Merlot. Drink it over the next decades.
